2009 Art Walk Nashua
Downtown Nashua and the Millyard district
October 3 and October 4, 2009
Art Walk Nashua 2009 promises to be the largest in the event’s five-year history, according to this year’s event chairman, Jay Minkarah. The annual arts and cultural celebration, organized by City Arts Nashua (CAN), will be held on Saturday, October 3rd, from 12:00 to 6:00 pm, and Sunday October 4th, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Art Walk Nashua 2009 builds upon the success of past Art Walks with an enticing array of open studios, galleries and businesses accompanied by live musical performances, refreshments and other attractions. Participants will be able to see artists’ displays within numerous retail businesses along Nashua’s Main, Water and Pearl Streets as well as in the historic Millyard District.
In the Millyard District, participants will be able to visit more than ten working studios and galleries in the Picker Building alone (99 Factory Street), producing pottery, jewelry, stained glass, photography and more and will be able to purchase original works directly from the artists. Also in the Millyard, browse among paintings, sculpture and fine art photography at the Nashua Area Artists Association’s Gallery One, the largest gallery in Southern New Hampshire. Project Exposure, a new regional arts magazine will be staffing a booth near Gallery One as well.
New venues this year on Main, Water and Pearl Streets include Splash, Just Lights, Darrell’s Music Hall, the Framery, Canal Art & Framing, Aidan James Salon featuring the art of Carolyn Parello, Persona Boutique, Fresh, and Fortin Gage. Returning venues include the One World Trading Co., Maison De L’Art and Ikebana Flower.
The Nashua Public Library, another returning venue, will once again display works from area artists. In addition, there will be book signings by children's author and illustrator Yong Chen on Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 pm and a Classical piano concert featuring Gregg Pauley on Saturday at 3:30 pm. After a one year absence, the historic Hunt Building at 6 Main Street will once again serve as a venue featuring paintings, prints and works in glass by artists Loretta Hubley, Dennis Phelan and Doreen Lustic along with live classical, jazz and folk music performances.
CAN is also pleased to announce that Art Spider will be celebrating the launch of ArtSpider.net at the Gazebo in Railroad Square with live music and visual art displays. Also new this year, CAN board member Robin Ann Peters, host of Art in Action on WSMN 1590AM Nashua, a photographer and author herself, will be opening up the WSMN studios on Main Street to the public as an Art Walk venue. Live music will also be featured at Studio 99, a new venue at 115 Main Street. Peters, who also facilitated incorporating Art Spider into the event, notes that “bringing the visuals arts, live music and literary arts together in the historic heart of the city truly is art in action, and I am thrilled to be apart of this exciting happening in the community.”
CAN is also grateful to the City of Nashua for supporting the event and to Art Walk sponsors Nashua Rotary West, Nashua Bank, Clancey & O’Neil, Tamposi-Nash, Elizabeth Grady and Slawsby Insurance.
Though the venues are all numbered, Jay Minkarah emphasized that “participants can visit them in any order they wish and with 30 distinct venues, some may prefer to break them up over both days.”
